Long ago a young boy sat in an elementary school classroom on a fine Minneapolis spring day. He listened as his teacher read about the "Song of Hiawatha" and all the pupils followed along in their text books. And then she was asking them the questions at the end of the story, such as "Who was Nawadaha?" and "Why does Longfellow call the pine trees 'black and gloomy'? and "Where did the wigwam of Nokomis stand?"
