Anthony's Nose is one of the landmarks of Hudson River scenery. The photograph presents a picture of beautiful color charm showing the palatial white steamer gliding silently in swift motion along its course on the mighty waterway silhouetted against the densely wooded mountain in its refreshing green foliage as a background.

900-foot mountain on the east bank of the Hudson River is thought to have been named in the 1600s after the prominent nose of Antoine de Hooges, secretary of the Rensselaerswyck colony at Albany. The postcard view dates from before Bear Mountain Bridge, the world's longest suspension bridge at the time, was built from the base of the mountain across the Hudson in 1923.
